Porcelain Veneers at Aura, Kingston
Veneers are wafer thin shells of restorative material (usually porcelain), bonded to the front surface of a tooth to improve the form, function and aesthetics of a tooth.
They are custom made and fabricated by a skilled ceramic artist at a lab. Veneers are a simple cosmetic solution to disguise many imperfections in your existing teeth such as discolouration, chipped and crooked teeth. Veneers can be used to restore one or more teeth depending on a smile’s requirements and the degree of improvement necessary. Once bonded to the tooth surface, veneers are strong and very natural looking. Veneers are a more conservative technique with minimal tooth preparation compared to crowning a tooth which is much more invasive. The procedure is similar to applying false nails.
The procedure usually takes two visits and a local anaesthetic is almost always used. The first appointment involves the tooth preparation, records and fitting the temporary veneer. The front surface of the tooth enamel is minimally prepared to an ideal shape for the veneer. Records of the teeth are taken during the procedure so our highly skilled technician can fabricate the veneer. A temporary veneer, made of acrylic, is temporarily cemented onto the tooth until the permanent one is ready. The second appointment involves the fitting and permanent bonding of the lab fabricated veneer to the tooth.
